back to Canada in 2011 ?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Although it’s a long while away yet, I’m researching a possible trip back into Canada for late September 2011. I need to get my timing right this time though… The plan is to hit the Rockies in the midst of the Fall color change with Jasper NP, Banff NP and North America’s Glacier NP being on the Radar. This trip will definately happen again sometime, and next year will hopefully be that time.

Sony Sweep Panorama

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

MY LATEST TOY…………….I haven’t owned a simple point and shoot camera for several years now, and my old Pentax Optio S has long since called it a day, but the new Sony DSC-W380 Sweep Panorama camera certainly captured my attention as a new and innovative device. For a few hundred bucks this thing automatically stitches a 180 degree panoramic image just by simply hand holding and sweeping the camera across the scene. Although the resolution is probably only really suitable for web use, I thought I’d utilise the panoramic feature on my website as a way of giving the viewer a much broader perspective, and an extreme wide angle sweeping panoramic view of the chosen photographic location.  Check out this new feature in my sample pics below. I can assure you it’s the nearest thing to being actually on location………….and believe me, that’s what you want !!

New Zealand Update #1

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Well it’s getting close to two months already since I arrived here in Queenstown, and although I’m enjoying the change of scenery, it hasn’t been without it’s troubles. I’m already on my second car after the first cheap piece of crap I purchased was overheating in zero degrees ! The second one is not without it’s issues but hopefully will be reliable till when I decide to come home, whenever that maybe.
I’m still trying to adjust to the weather here. Coming from Queensland, Australia to Queenstown, New Zealand straight into Winter was a shock to the system and to be honest I’ve had enough of the cold already ! The photography hasn’t been much good either with a distinct lack of snow and a decidedly parched and dry landscape ruining any chance of capturing something special. Frozen fingers are crossed for some good snow falls before the season end so I can put the camera’s to work. I have some promising locations mapped out and then it’s just a matter of waiting for the appropriate weather and jumping in the car. I will be very busy towards the end of the year when Spring comes around and the landscape comes to life……can’t wait. Spring in NZ and a quick trip to the USA in the late Fall hopefully will produce some stunning shots. I’ll have A LOT of new images by the end of the year, and massive amounts of work over Christmas, which is OK by me…….I have a new APPLE IMAC in my sights !

Catlins – NZ

Monday, July 19th, 2010

I made the trip down to the bottom of NZ last week in search of possible locations to shoot. I visited the beautiful Catlins region on my last trip so I knew a couple of great locations already, so the idea was to re-visit these secret spots and this time use my brain, as opposed to being impatient and rushing ! I came away with virtually nothing, but will return later in the year for a re-shoot. I have some creative ideas in mind !
